With Covid-19, are your offices safe and clean?
Yes, we take our safety and your safety very seriously. Our offices are cleaned daily. However, as a client you will not be in contact with anyone at the office and will sit across the room from your therapist/coach. There is no need for physical contact during a session, and no need to touch anything that others may have touched. Masks are encouraged in all common areas, and can be worn at your request in our sessions. We have a strict policy that any client showing symptoms of illness or not feeling well in any way NOT come to the office.
I am not a part of the majority culture--Will I be judged? How do I know my therapist or coach will truly understand me?
At Insight we pride ourselves on our multi-cultural awareness and inclusion. We pay close attention to current social and cultural challenges so that we may respond in the most knowledgeable and sensitive way.
We actively support all people, cultures, genders, religions, identities, orientations, abilities, sizes, and beliefs. There is no judgement here. We understand that each person's unique history, culture, upbringing, and experiences shape who they are and how they perceive and understand themselves and the world.
Why do people seek coaching or counseling?
People hire a coach or counselor for many different reasons. Some need help transitioning through a difficult time in their lives. Some may need support and accountability to achieve goals. Others are seeking personal growth and need fresh perspective and encouragement to be their best selves. And still others are not sure what they need, but know that they don’t feel happy or fulfilled and want to find joy and meaning in their lives. People who seek counseling or coaching are motivated to make changes in their lives and ready for challenge. In general, people get out of coaching or counseling what they are willing to put into it. The more you are willing to dig deep and look at yourself, and the harder you are willing to work, the more long-term benefits you will see.
How often do we meet?
Initially we suggest meeting at least once per week until you get some momentum going and are actively using your new tools and skills on your own. Once you establish some positive changes in your life we can discuss moving to sessions every other week. And finally, when positive changes start to become lasting, and practicing your learned tools and skills becomes second nature to you, we can discuss moving to monthly sessions. Once you have reached your goals, monthly sessions can continue for accountability and maintenance of changes, or you may choose to end our sessions and meet as needed.
Where do we meet?
Depending on what is convenient for you, sessions can take place over the phone, video, or in person if you are in the local area (Atlanta/Buford, GA).
Are coaching and counseling sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is one of the most important components of counseling. Successful counseling and coaching requires a high degree of trust. All information discussed in a session is kept confidential.
What is the difference between life coaching and counseling? And how do I know which one I need?
BOTH are forms of counseling. Counseling is an age old custom of seeking perspective, guidance, help, advice, wisdom, and support from someone else that has more of the thing you want. That may be experience in something, education and training on certain subjects, or is simply known as a wise and trustworthy person you can count on to help you see your way through something. In addition, BOTH are also forms of coaching. Both help someone get from where they are to where they want to be. Traditionally, counseling is meant to take a person from -10 to 0 (back to “normal"); however, the philosophy of coaching is meant to take a person from 0 to +10. In other words, life coaching takes ordinary people and helps them become extraordinary. At Insight Counseling and Coaching Specialists, we do not adhere to the philosophy of counseling in the traditional sense of treating mental illness. We do not help a “sick” person to become “normal.” We specialize in helping motivated people to live their purpose, achieve their goals, create balance and harmony in their lives, and find deep fulfillment. We want to help you be the best YOU that you can be.
What is a session with you like?
Because each person comes to counseling or coaching with different motivation and different needs, no two client sessions are exactly the same. But in general, you can expect that we will discuss your current life and history as it pertains to your problem, obstacle, or goal. At the end of each session we will create a goal for the following week that will help to further you along the path to achieving your ultimate goal, whatever that may be. In many cases, this may include written homework that requires documentation or introspection, reading specific materials, or completing an agreed upon action. The following week’s session will include a discussion of the homework and progress toward achieving your ultimate goal, along with setting a new weekly goal. Throughout our time together we will learn and practice techniques tailored to your specific needs and goals, such as using positive self-talk, identifying and changing old limiting beliefs and patterns, identifying and eliminating energy drainers, visualization, etc. We do our best to be supportive and encouraging while still holding you accountable. We strive to create a comfortable, relaxed, judgement-free atmosphere where you can feel free to say anything that's on your mind.
How do I find the right life coach or counselor?
Life coaching has become popular in recent years. You can find hundreds of life coaches through a quick search on the internet. However, finding a reputable life coach is not as easy as it looks.
At present, the government does not require formal certifications or licenses for people who want to become life coaches. That means anyone can call themselves a professional life coach, even if they have no training or degree of any kind.
Unfortunately, many coaches are often just regular folks who think they're good at giving advice. They may not be able to give you the support and guidance that licensed professionals with specialized training and experience can offer. To get the best, most effective results, life coaching and counseling should be provided by a qualified, professionally trained and licensed counselor or therapist, with a Masters or Ph.D. level education.
The relationship that you have with your counselor or life coach is very unique. Not every counselor or coach will be a good fit for you. Every counselor has his or her own unique style of interacting with people. You may need to interview a couple of different coaches to find the one that best meets your needs and meshes with your personality. When you talk with your counselor or coach you should get a sense that you are important and not "just another client." You should feel that your coach or counselor really listens to you and understands your unique needs. Be sure to let your counselor or coach know exactly what you expect from him or her.
